VIDEO: LIVE @ HIDMO featuring okanomodé & THE CAROUSEL

Last Friday, September 11th 2009, we had the final edition of our beloved summer concert series Live @ Hidmo. The show featured okanomodé & THE CAROUSEL which is okanomodé (a.k.a. SoulChilde) on lead vocals, Sirius & Maya Jenkins on additional vocals, Camilo Estrada on bass, D'Vonne Lewis on drums, Chad Red Light on keys, and a surprise cameo appearance from Yirim Seck! If you haven't seen okanomodé live yet, do yourself a favor and catch the next show... my brotha makes timeless music and will lift your spirit no matter where your at. Scott Macklin was there to document the evening, so check the video! And stay tuned for the next Live @ Hidmo series... we're working on one for the next season that's gonna be ridiculous!

Yirim Seck in The Stranger!

Back Home:
Seattle MC Yirim Seck's Hiphop Classicism

Yirim Seck is one the dopest, most hard-working, yet often too humble MC's i've come across in my years of doing music in Seattle. He's got an incredible delivery, beat selection, choruses, a gift for storytelling... and has stolen so many shows before even dropping his first album! Check the long-awaited debut CD Release Party for Yirim's "Hear Me Out" tomorrow night (8/20) at the Chop Suey in Seattle, WA! The show is also featuring Fresh Espresso, The Physics, Black Stax, LaRue, DJ WD4D and hosted by yours truly! Now check the piece Charles wrote about Yirim, right here.

Big World Breaks "4 Those Lost..." :: Review in Seattle Weekly

Big World Breaks "4 Those Lost..."
Album Review in Seattle Weekly

If you've been to any of my shows with a live band, you know Big World Breaks... They've been putting it down harder and longer than any other band in Seattle's Hip Hop scene. Last month they released the debut album 4 Those Lost... and the release party (pictured to the left) was a night to remember... i still get hype thinking about it. All that talent assembled on that one stage, and on one CD... NOBODY is doing what Big World Breaks does, and the music is excellent. It's hard to believe the first review in print came out today. Jonathan said it well tho... check the review. And then cop the album next time your at Hidmo.

THE PEACE PROJECT:
As you all well know, the escalating tide of violence in the streets of Seattle has senselessly swept up far too many lives in the last few months. This sickening loss of life has shaken our community to the core, and many are striving to find solutions in the face of the seemingly never-ending series of young people being murdered in the CD and South End. The Peace Project hopes to spread a real message of change, hope, and love through the transformative power of music; and even more directly, to benefit the families of Joseph “29-E” Ryan and Tyrone Love- two members of the close-knit local music community who’s lives were taken in recent months. Please show your support and solidarity with The Peace Project with your donations, your presence, and most of all, your heart.

GT's celebrating 28 years of life, 2 years of Hidmo, & 10 years of doing shows in the Northwest! WHAT!!!

Mystic, from Oakland California currently residing in Los Angeles, released her debut album, Cuts for Luck and Scars for Freedom, in the summer of 2001 to critical acclaim and a dedicated fan base. She has toured with Digital Underground, Slum Village, Black Eyed Peas, Phife and Jarobi (Tribe Called Quest) as well as co-headlining a MTV2 tour with India Irie, which also included Heather B, Kelis, Goapele and others called The Women of Hip Hop and Soul Tour. Fans and the unknowing alike were exited and impressed with her personal shows, either with a DJ or with a live band. Through the support of many Mystic was nominated for a Grammy in the category of Best Rap Song Collaboration for the song 'W' featuring Planet Asia; as well as for Best Female Hip Hop artist at the 2002 BET Awards.

In the process of working her album, JCOR, the distributing label, folded and Mystic along with Goodvibe Recordings signed a new deal to re-release the album with Dreamworks Records. With everything in gear, including a first video shot, Dreamworks was bought by Universal Music which led to Mystic asking to be released from her contract. Though that music may never be heard, Mystic has spent the past few years putting together the new album, entitled "Beautiful Resistance". Working with The Beatminerz, Eligh (of Living Legends), Zinn, Adamatic, Sample 208, and Buccweet; Mystic has once again put together an album full of love, pain, struggle, hope, fear and honesty for the next chapter. She is an urban dream with a voice that tells no lies. Having taken the time to attend school, live life and make the album she wanted; Mystic is piece by piece, show by show venturing back out and re-opening the amazing dialogue she has always had with her fans. For those who know…welcome back; for those who don't…welcome to a new day.

Yirim Seck :: One Verse (Episode 1)

Meet Yirim Seck. one of my favorite people and one of the dopest emcees in Seattle right now... you all should know him and when that album (heat) finally drops i think you'll agree.

Check the newest video on IjoArts.com It's a mix of acappella performance, personal commentary and documentary footage... and a great introduction to the homie we all know as Yirim. (check out Jerm breaking down the Northwest in the last scene too - ha!) i can't wait to see more. and while your at it... peep the video he did with Silas Blak for "Breath Easy (Mind Click)" right here.

"206 In Me" - Gabriel Teodros, Jerm, Rajnii & Yirim Seck (produced by Budo) - this was for a mixtape that never dropped, Yirim's album is a million times doper than this. i just like leaking all my unreleased cuts on here - ha!
