Deps Neumonic :: It Hurts To Know

another one of my upcoast cousins, Zes Nomis, just hipped me to this video from our family Deps! i can't tell you how happy i am to see this guy still making music. Over the last 10 years or so of doing shows in the Northwest i've been a part of several crews, and music helped make everywere we go, home. 9 years ago Asun (a.k.a. Suntonio Bandanaz of Alpha-P) took me on a trip that never ended to Vancouver, B.C... and it's been a second home ever since. He introduced me to a crew called 4th World Occupants and we stayed at this brotha named Wes's crib... a Zambian/Canadian emcee with a style all his own. Definitley one of my early influences and one of the few people i can say ever wrote one verse that made me feel positive about just being a bridge. In a song with Lace Cadence called Skin Is Brown (for the still unreleased Blastoff Productions album), Deps wrote "We are proof/ that racism should not exist... when yin fell in love with yang we became the faces seen in aincent tribal flames... near Zambian braves and Celtic plains/ the shepards roam... they all spoke as humble folk/ to the temple of hope... my bronze temple is home..." i could still spit that whole verse for you word for word. He had cuts. and if you ever copped my first album Sun To A Recycled Soul that was Deps on the title track. i like telling these stories. We were also part of a larger crew (NAPS) that at one time included 500 Years (Asun, Jerm, Rajnii, Kasi, Castro and myself), Elevated Elements (Macklemore, Lace Cadence, Exakt, Patrick and FingerPrints), 4th World Occupants (Deps, Emotionz, Rowd & House - Vancouver, B.C.), R.I.P. (which stood for Resurrecting Imagination's Potential - Zes Nomis, Zetan... Victoria, B.C.) and our big homies like Prevail Wonder, Orko Elohiem & Moka Only. over half of us were still in high school when it all started. There was one NAPS album, a bunch of mix-tapes... and after 2001 we all started growing in different directions. It truly warms my heart to see the homies still making music... and on that note i'm a go see Helladope tonight. see you in traffic!
